MANUFACTURING WIDGETS FOR EXPORT?

When most people think about export markets, they think about manufacturing. Of course there are challenges to manufacturing a product in the UK for an international export market, not least the cost base and the differentiation of the product. However, so many people don’t even consider export markets for the service sector. Well, the service sector covers a vast array, so I shall name a few; UK tourism, education (including English as a foreign language, the creative sector, the communication sector. So, of course we need to export our UK widgets, but, in my opinion, there is actually more scope for export markets within the service sector. All you need to do is create the opportunity. If you think back to the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Olympics in London last year, we certainly did put on a good show to the world, so there’s a great platform for the UK service and manufacturing sectors to create our own legacies of export success!
